At the start of the design process, Ostertag asked himself the question “what would you do if you lived the day of a fly and only had 24 hours’ time?” His answer? “Celebrate the togetherness and not the singular, like so many of us have been living for years,” stated the designer.  Ostertag celebrated the topic of indulgence and turned the catwalk into a disco this season.  As an ode to the inspirations, flowing dresses and transparent blouses were decorated with delicate tassel details to exaggerate movement while tight miniskirts were combined with wide tunics for volume. Perfect ensembles in which to celebrate together for 24 hours of the mythical fly’s life.

The season’s trademark insect prints were showcased on seventies silhouettes throughout the collection.  A dayfly is supported by scarabs, which represents eternity and infinity while the many other featured insects represent life and the constant flow of change.  A metamorphosis printed on silk demonstrated how multifaceted the life is that surrounds us each.  Other species of fauna, which has always inspired Marcel Ostertag, was printed on sateen cotton and satin silk and was ornamented with delicate embroidery.

This season, the designer gave special attention to his favorite piece, the trench coat. Sometimes cut-up and reappearing as a skirt or modified into a cocktail dress, the classic trench complements the party theme that is the staple thread throughout the collection. Knitwear, a traditional important portion of the collection, and continue to be amongst Ostertag’s bestsellers, were given an update with new patterns and innovative knit types.  Again, and of course, all ‘made in Germany.’

Never forgetting the fashion adage, fashion doesn’t work without shoes, and shoes don’t without fashion, Marcel Ostertag is excited to announce the “Marcel Ostertag x Tamaris” footwear collaboration which walked the runway last month in Berlin and just became available in stores, but sadly, not in North America.  The collection has already garnered significant support from retailers in the 28 countries in which it debuted since it arrived in stores on August 25th, 2017.

The brand’s styling team included makeup artistry by NYX and hair looks created by REDKEN. Other noteworthy collaborations on this show include SEAT Automobiles and sunglasses created with IC Berlin, but none were more important than the musical collaboration with the designer’s brother, Johann Ostertag, who created the track for the runway show.
