When Africa and Barcelona Meet New York

Farewell summer nights. As much as we are sad to see you go, we are even more excited for the new Fall season. Along with going back to school and pumpkin spice lattes, New Yorker’s are getting ready for New York Fashion Week. Designers from all over the world come to New York to showcase their upcoming summer/spring 2018 collection and this years fashion week was no disappointment at all. Let’s just say it lived up to its expectations.
I had the amazing opportunity to not only witness front row shows, but also visited the Denibi collection backstage. I met with the models and spoke to the Designer himself about what were his inspirations for this year collection. This collection was one of my favorite from this year’s Fashion week. The collection featured mainly neutral/minimalist colors such as whites, nudes and pastels. The pieces were derived from his native country Africa and his current home in Barcelona. He goes on to state
You can see a lot of details from pieces that are coming from Africa, like the chokers, the backpack with the mask, and in every collection we try to give a pop of color. Last season was yellow this season is blue and that represents Barcelona because it is a very colorful city.” Said Denibi, I conducted a short, yet insightful interview backstage. All of his ideas were depicted into the collection from the mask on the handbags worn by the models, to the fabric and texture of the clothing. Overall the collection represented a bit of his culture and what he envisioned for the Denibi line.   written by- Nirvana Simon

Denibi is a fashion house born and based in Barcelona. Specializing in high quality leather goods, ready-to-wear, and furniture the collection is inspired by the city of Barcelona, the essence of traveling, African heritage, and minimalism.
The name “Denibi” symbolizes a utopia for creatives. An island never damaged or influenced by any negative foreign interference. Where creatives are able to push themselves to the fullest of their artistic abilities in the comfort of like minds and limitless possibility.  That concept is what we know today as the future. Denibi has been preparing the future for years to bring fine taste and minimalism through design. The architecture and aesthetic of the island is represented through the many tones of pastel colors and whites throughout each collection.
