Pretty Girl Blues redefines femininity by focusing on the experience of a young girl who chose to wear boys/mens clothing as well as carrying herself in a masculine way, specifically in urban communities. The film is written and performed by Jalese Ayana. By speaking on experiences as a child that affected the way one grows through their teens and early adult life, the goal of this project is encourage young kids to be transparent with their own experiences.
What started out as just a audio piece grew into a multimedia project when Jalese began shooting women who could relate with her own experiences, majority of these women fit within the lgbt spectrum and self identify as non-binary, studs, dyke and tomboys .
