The Next Big Name in Fashion, Nonie, Debuts at NYFW: The Shows

New York, NY (September 12, 2018) – Canadian ready to wear label Nonie showed their Spring/Summer 2019 collection to a venue overflowing with eager guests this afternoon for the first time at New York Fashion Week ready to catapult her career. Stemming from recent A-list industry chatter, the fashion crowd was so excited to see what Nonie’s designer, Nina Kharey would produce next.

This season, the collection consisted of an abundance of silk and draping, inspired by Kharey’s Indian heritage. Satin materials in black, ivory, red, and yellow were crafted like they’re worn in traditional Indian culture, but styled in an everyday Western fashion.

Tops, jackets, and even the trench silhouette worn by Meghan Markle made their way down the runway in a surprising sheer material. Luxurious tied plunging necklines and asymmetrical ruching details recurred throughout the collection in a variety of hues with placement on the thigh of skirts and waistline on mid-length dresses.

This line was created from my heart and passion. It’s made up of clothing designed for women who don’t want the hassle of figuring out how to wear certain trends or statement pieces, but want to look well put together instantly. It’s for women who appreciate longevity with their clothes.” said designer Nina Kharey just before her New York runway debut.

Nonie’s goal is to create clothing that gives the wearer effortless style that lasts in their closet for a life time. Several conversations were overheard at the venue that the label is the next big name to hit the fashion industry.

NONIE creates Ready to Wear modern womenswear conceived and ethically developed in Canada. The collections are made with a tailored and refined aesthetic, with a twist of Eastern inspiration that is at the heart of the founder, Nina Kharey’s creative vision.

Launched to great acclaim in the Fall of 2008, the line was handmade in Calgary, Canada, Nina’s hometown and sold at local boutiques. It was featured in numerous media outlets. After showing in both Calgary and Toronto, Nina stepped back to focus on starting her family and being a mother.

In 2014, Nina started designing her newest collection, Autumn Winter 2015 under the mentorship of Barbara Atkin, now former Fashion Director at Holt Renfrew. The collection introduces new directional style in ways that embrace and represent Nina’s own style and her love of minimalistic lines inspired by Indian menswear. Now, with a new team in Vancouver, NONIE brings a collection of bold and modern design.
